Three events, one movement, a call for revival

United States (MNN) – Revival is a whisper growing louder in the evangelical Christian community. On college campuses, the movement is taking place through three separate events: World Student Day, Together 2018, and Urbana 18.

Celebrating God’s Work

Today is World Student Day, an annual day celebrating the global ways God is moving through the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students. InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is one of 250 movements which make up IFES. To mark the day, InterVarsity is having a day of prayer.

InterVarsity has Chapters on nearly 700 campuses across the United States. These Chapters are hosting prayer meetings and sharing about the day on social media. InterVarsity’s Director of Marketing Andrea Thomas says it is a fun way to celebrate being part of the global movement. Plus, at ifeswsd.org students across the globe can connect, encourage revival, and use prompts to celebrate.

“Students can share their prayer requests there. They can plan a prayer meeting and indicate it on the map. They can learn more about the World Student Day, so it’s very easy to be involved and it’s virtual…The heart behind it is the 200 million college students worldwide. And, we know that many are in countries, cities, and forgotten corners of campuses without anyone there to introduce them to Jesus,” Thomas says.

Sparking Revival

People can get involved with World Student Day regardless of where they are. Just pray for the students in your life and around the world. It can be a prayer which lasts two minutes. But, be sure to intercede for these students and ask for Christ’s presence in their lives.

“At InterVarsity when we think about mission fields in the world. We believe that if you change the university, you change the world and that students are the future,” Thomas shares.

Worldwide social movements often begin on the college campus. Campuses are where new ideas are examined and grown. It is also a place where Jesus is needed. A relationship with Jesus impacts students’ thoughts, their growth, and the implementation of their ideas.

“We love what we’re seeing in terms of passion and heart for the Gospel. We at InterVarsity, brothers and sisters around the world, we’re praying for global revival, and we have a sense that [it] will begin on the college campus,” Thomas says.

Tomorrow the Together 2018 conference begins at the Texas Motor Speedway. Together will take place on Saturday and Sunday with a U.S. student focus. It is an event stoking the fires of revival in the student generations. Between 100-250 thousand people are expected to attend, and 400 partner organizations are lending a hand. At the conference InterVarsity, Cru, and Circuit Training will host the Garage.

“It’s a 20,000 square foot training space using the garages where all the race cars come during the race event…Throughout the day participants will be encouraged to go to the Garage, through four different zones encouraging them to pray, to seek what God might have for them as the next steps after Together 2018,” Thomas explains.

“The heart and passion behind the Garage is to mobilize this next generation to go back into their schools, their college campuses, to their families, to share the Gospel.”

Get Involved

However, if you or a student you know cannot make it to Together 2018, then sign up for InterVarsity’s Triennial Urbana Student Missions conference held in St. Louis, Missouri this December.

“The theme is Faithful Witness and this immersive five-day experience is really all about the Global church and what God is doing around the world,” Thomas explains.

InterVarsity wants to see a breakthrough in word, deed, and power which will usher in a new normal of Kingdom fruitfulness. Know a student who is interested in what God’s doing globally or thinking about missions? Then help send them to Urbana 18 this winter. Together we can help spark a global revival. Let’s do this.
