The YMCA’s commitment to improving lives through spirit, mind, and body has been a powerful force in America. The historical mission of the YMCA, to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all, has guided the organization since its founding in London in 1844 to help young men in the inner city. These principles are expressed today through the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. YMCA volunteers and staff continue to develop innovate solutions to community problems. In 2003, the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region served 65,963 members and 58,937 other registered program participants.
