Laurence C. Jones founded the Piney Woods School in 1909 in rural Rankin County, Mississippi, to provide poor black students with a “head, heart, and hands” education. The Piney Woods School recognizes that throughout the United States there are students, especially African-American students, who have the capability to make their lives extraordinary through excellence in education and the development of moral and ethical attitudes. Sadly, many do not have the opportunity to do so for financial or more compelling reasons. We work to provide “Excellence in Education” within a Christian community through the creation of an exceptional and proven academic model.
