Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee was started in 1982 when some concerned community citizens saw a need in the community to gather surplus food for the hungry. Today, Second Harvest Food Bank’s fights hunger by providing food, services and education in our 18-county community. Second Harvest distributes food to more than 350 agencies. These agencies, in turn, serve meals to hungry people in our 18 county area. Food is gathered from restaurants, grocery stores, cafeterias, local businesses, national businesses, through food drives and events, and through procurement. Last year Second Harvest distributed over 6.8 million pounds of food.
