Santa Fe Institute

The Santa Fe Institute (SFI) is a private, independent research and education center founded in 1984, for multidisciplinary collaborations in the physical, biological, computational, and social sciences. Understanding of complex adaptive systems is critical to addressing key environmental, technological, biological, economic, and political challenges. Since its inception, the Santa Fe Institute has devoted itself to the creation of a new kind of scientific research community pursuing emerging syntheses in science. SFI is also a visiting institution. At any given time, about 60% of resident scientists are on appointments of less than one year, the rest, including the postdoctoral fellows, on appointments of 1-5 years.
