San Jose Museum of Art

Founded in 1969, the San Jose Museum of Art (SJMA) is dedicated to fostering an awareness, appreciation, and understanding of twentieth- and twenty-first century art in the diverse audiences of the Bay Area. SJMA’s Permanent Collection, which focuses on twentieth and twenty-first century artworks, with an emphasis on West Coast artists, includes more than 2,000 objects in a variety of media. As the region’s premier visual arts institution and community museum, SJMA strives to be accessible to all, including San Jose’s large, underserved population with limited financial resources; this is achieved through SJMA’s Free Admission Policy. SJMA serves 225,000 people a year and is the largest provider of visual arts education to regional public schools.
