Public Allies

In 1992, a diverse group of young social entrepreneurs were helped by a number of established community and national leaders to create Public Allies. Through our signature AmeriCorps program, Public Allies identifies talented young adults from diverse backgrounds and advances their leadership through a ten month program of full-time, paid apprenticeships in nonprofit organizations, weekly leadership trainings, and team service projects. To date, over 1,500 diverse young adults have participated in our program in these communities. Through apprenticeships and team service projects at more than 550 nonprofit organizations across the country, Allies and the 30,000 volunteers they have recruited have served over 300,000 children, adults, and families.
