Mercatus Center

The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is a research and education center dedicated to bringing about a freer, more prosperous, and peaceful society. Mercatus (mer-KAY-tus) is the Latin term used to describe the activity of markets, trade, and commerce. Thus, Mercatus generates knowledge and understanding of how institutions affect the freedom to prosper and holds organizations accountable for their impact on that freedom. Mercatus is an ideas-based organization. Mercatus turns ideas into action by working alongside policymakers to solve problems that impede the freedom to prosper. It does not hold or promulgate official positions but rather, is dedicated to the spirit of free inquiry and debate.
