Chartered in 1933, the mission of the Memphis Shelby County Humane Society it to offer refuge, medical care, nourishment, and an opportunity for a second chance for life to injured and abused animals; to protect animals from cruelty, neglect, carelessness and ignorance; to foster a public sentiment of humanity and gentleness toward animals and promote responsible pet ownership through humane education; and to enhance the quality of human life with animal companionship. With our veterinary care for injured animals, cruelty investigations, adoptions, pet-assisted therapy, low cost spay/neuter program, humane education program and other services, we have become an integral and indispensable part of the city.
