McLaughlin Research Institute for Biomedical Sciences

The McLaughlin Research Institute for Biomedical Sciences began in 1954 as a research organization in Great Falls, Montana near the Rocky Mountain Front. Research at the institute focuses on understanding the genetic control of normal development and disease susceptibility using the mouse as a model system. The Institute fosters a collegial, interactive environment, minimizing bureaucratic impediments to research. We improve human health through innovative genetic research and education. The Institute conducts research into diseases that affect young and old including Alzheimer’s, diabetes, blindness, deafness, hearing loss, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, peripheral neuropathy, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
