Since its inception in 1987, Houston Habitat for Humanity has built over 450 homes in Houston. Houston Habitat is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International and builds simple, decent homes for people in need in affordable housing. The affiliate has grown from building one house per year in 1988 to over 50 homes per year in 2004. Houston Habitat is one of the largest affiliates in the country based on annual home production. Houston Habitat for Humanity, an ecumenical Christian ministry, is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing in the City of Houston by helping low-income families earn simple decent homes in which to live and raise their children.
