Founded in 1985, Friends of the Zoo supports operations of the Chattanooga Zoo for the education and enjoyment of individuals living in and visiting Chattanooga, Tennessee. Opened in 1937, the mission of the Chattanooga Zoo is to provide an educational and recreational opportunity for all. The educational mission stresses understanding of and respect for all living things. A strong commitment to conservation for generations to come is implicit in this mission. The Chattanooga Zoo seeks to provide a dignified and aesthetically pleasing environment for the animals.
