Founded in 1989, DKT International is a Washington, D.C.-based charitable organization that implements nine social marketing programs in nine countries. Over the past three decades, social marketing has made effective use of marketing techniques and private sector networks to deliver family planning products and services. Social marketing makes products and services affordable to poor populations by subsidizing the price. In 2004, our programs provided ongoing protection for 9.04 million couples. This averted 5.16 million unwanted pregnancies. The programs also averted 184,000 infant and maternal deaths (174,000 infant and 10,000 maternal deaths).
