Childhaven was established in 1909 by the Reverend Mark Matthews as the Seattle Day Nursery, one of the first 50 child care centers in the country. We are dedicated to providing programs to eliminate child abuse and neglect through early intervention. We sponsor and provide model child abuse care and treatment programs with the goal of affecting the greatest number of children and families in Western Washington. Childhaven’s model program has been replicated in communities throughout Washington State in South Carolina, and Calgary, Canada. We have the capacity for treating 268 children each day.
