The
Simba tribe consists of over 60 communities. These communities are
scattered over a large area of southern Bolivia. Since there are few
roads, and those are poorly maintained, most of these communities are
very difficult to enter by vehicle. As a missionary team, we have
searched for a strategy for reaching these people with the Gospel. Part
of that strategy is to start having Bible courses in Taperillas, the
community in which we live, and invite Simba people from all the other
communities. One of the advantages of doing this is those that attend
will be away from their own communities where, in many cases, the witch
doctors put pressure on them not to listen to the teaching. In at least
one of the communities it is forbidden for the people to learn to read.
Our first Bible course was a great success. We used one of the rooms in
the clinic, but now that room is being used by the nurse. Therefore, we
are trusting the Lord to build a facility. We would like to begin by
building a large shelter-type structure. Three of the walls would be
constructed "half-way" while the pulpit area would have a wall
all the way to the roof. (We could possibly put up a curtain or close
off an area for the students to sleep in.) There will also be a small
kitchen with a wood burning stove and cement counter tops. The community
of Taperillas has set aside ideal land for this center. The land is just
below our house. Larry Depue found an excellent price on duralite
(roofing material) and went ahead and bought enough to do our project.
The cost was over $2000, but we are that much ahead. We are estimating
that we will need another $5000 for the first phase of construction.
From there we plan to build dormitories, and bath and laundry
facilities. We believe that the Lord has directed us to do this and have
no doubt that He will provide the finances necessary.

Simba Sunday
School

 |
In
Taperillas on a typical Sunday morning we have around 40 children
attending the Church meeting. We saw a big need to start a Sunday School
for these children. So, for the last few months a couple of the older
believers have been attempting to teach the children for a one hour class
every Sunday morning. The problem is that they are meeting at an abandoned
adobe house that has no roof. There are no tables and chairs so the
children stand or sit in the dirt. The lot is across the road from the
house where the church meets. We have decided to present this Sunday
School project to you. We hope to raise enough money to put up a shelter
and buy tables and benches. We also want to try and provide some basic
materials such as books, crayons, pencils, etc. We need to separate two
different classes within the shelter. We believe that we could improve the
situation immensely with very little investment. We estimate we need $1000
for this project.. If the church in Taperillas could accommodate them, we
will see most of the children in the community attending Sunday School.
And many of them may be reached for Christ. That's a bargain at any
price.
