Rachel Jongeward was born to Harold & Becky in Yakima, Washington, and went with them when they first went to Ethiopia.  Rachel attended Bingham Academy, in Ethiopia, for grades 1 – 4, 6-8; Westside Christian School for grade 5 and half of 8; and Rift Valley Academy in Kenya for Grades 9 – 12.  Rachel spent two years at John Brown University in Arkansas where she met Giovanni, a Guatemalan.  

They were married in Guatemala on August 15, 1992. They lived in Guatemala for the next five years.  Alex(andra) was born on October 4, 1994.  

In 1997, Giovanni, Rachel, and Alex went to Ethiopia for a two year short term with SIM.  Giovanni taught computer classes at Bingham Academy, and helped with the computers at the SIM headquarters in Addis Ababa.  Giovanni and Rachel were also involved in youth ministry.  

Miguel was born August 14, 1998.  (Harold and Becky were able to visit Ethiopia at that time to see Miguel, Alex, Giovanni and Rachel, and see all their other friends in Ethiopia.)

In 1999, Giovanni, Rachel and family returned to Guatemala for almost three years. They are currently in Asia where Giovanni is looking at business opportunities.
