Harold & Becky arrived back in Ethiopia on
September 22, 2002. After seven weeks in an Amharic language refresher course,
they started their jobs.
Becky's job:
Becky is hostess for the SIM Guest
House in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Guest House provides room and board for SIM
and other missionaries needing a place to stay in Addis Ababa. Since Addis is
the capital and main city of Ethiopia, all come through on their way in and out
of the country. Additionally, all major shopping and business is done in Addis.
So the Guest House stays very busy with missionary visitors and even others as
place is available. About 16 dedicated Ethiopian staff help Becky in the office,
purchasing, kitchen, laundry, and room cleaning.
Harold's job:
Harold's main job title is "Theological Education & Church Ministries
Director". This means he oversees all SIM Ethiopia's ministries in these
areas. He works closely with many of the leaders in the Kale Heywet (Word of
Life) Church national office. Kale Heywet is the denomination made up of all the
churches that have been started directly or indirectly through the ministry of
SIM in Ethiopia. Harold cares for things like: placement of and contact with
missionaries in Theological Education and Church Ministries, handling related
projects, and handling scholarship funds. His capable assistant is Worku
HaileMariam. Harold has a few other responsibilities like member of the SIM
Ethiopia Admin team, SIM HQ station manager, and member of Labor Committee.
